The Lakeya Village Farmers Group is a grassroots community initiative dedicated to uplifting marginalized tribal farmers in Jharkhand through education, modern technology, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Empowering Tribal Farmers
Our impact is driven by those most affected by the future of our climate. Among our 458 farmers:
-
Tribal Women and Youth: The group prioritizes opportunities for tribal women and youth (aged 18–35), ensuring that economic growth in Lakeya is both inclusive and forward-looking.
-
Efficient and Sustainable: Across the highly fertile lands of Gumla, the group spreads awareness and implements techniques to maximize the productivity of small plots without compromising environmental sustainability.
Indigenous Wisdom
While the tribes of Lakeya Village utilize age-old wisdom and traditional techniques, they remain susceptible to modern environmental and economic challenges.
-
Maximizing Small Plots: Despite the inherent fertility of the land, small-scale plots often struggle to generate sufficient revenue in the face of rising costs. We introduce innovative solutions and methods to maximize output while carefully preserving the natural fertility of the soil.
-
The Blend: We recognize the vital need to adapt. By blending the ancient ecological wisdom held by village elders with contemporary scientific methods, we empower our community to effectively combat modern agricultural challenges.
Redefining Value through the SIR Farm Model
A Partnership to Benefit 168 Farmers
Lakeya Village Farmers Group integrates with the SIR Farm model by internalizing the social and environmental values that the traditional market ignores:
Positive Externalities: Green Initiative Kakuma is rewarded for preserving indigenous knowledge, sequestering carbon in arid soils, and providing social stability for refugee and host communities.
Negative Externalities: The SIR model helps offset the high “hidden costs” of operating in an arid environment, such as water scarcity and climate-induced migration risks.
Through this model, these factors are “internalized,” ensuring that farmers are rewarded for the total value they bring to the world, not just the raw weight of their crop.

Partnership Details
Lakeya Village Farmers Group has joined forces with the Social Impact Rewards (SIR) platform to bring financial inclusion to 458 small-scale farmers. This partnership is vital for a community that has historically been excluded from mainstream financial systems. By integrating with SIR, these farmers—many of whom face barriers due to low education levels—are now recognized as key contributors to environmental health. The partnership provides a direct reward mechanism that bypasses complex traditional banking, ensuring that the value created by their labor stays within the village.
Focus Areas
Our mission is to transform subsistence farming into a sustainable and dignified livelihood. Our core focus areas include:
-
Marginalized & Tribal Empowerment
-
Technology Enablement
-
Sustainable Awareness
-
Social Upliftment
Geographical Location
Founded and operated in Gumla District, Jharkhand, India.
Alignment with SIR
The Lakeya Village Farmers Group embodies the SIR mission of “valuing the invisible.” Because our farmers are often marginalized and have low education, their immense contribution to the ecosystem is frequently overlooked by global markets.
-
Internalizing Positive Externalities: Our farmers act as stewards of the land, preserving local seeds and maintaining soil fertility. SIR recognizes these “positive externalities,” turning their traditional knowledge and environmental care into a tangible financial reward.
-
Correcting Negative Externalities: Small-scale farmers are often the first to suffer from the “negative externalities” of climate change and market fluctuations. The SIR model provides a secondary, non-crop-dependent income stream that builds a buffer against these external shocks.
-
Inclusive Tech: The SIR platform allows us to quantify the impact of 458 farmers who might otherwise be “invisible” to the global economy, ensuring that progress is measured by social equity, not just literacy.
