Stone‑milled flour that restores regional grain economies and soil health.
Cairnspring Mills is an independent craft flour mill in Washington State that partners directly with farmers to produce stone‑milled, identity‑preserved flour. By paying premiums for grain grown with regenerative practices and milling close to where it is produced, Cairnspring supports soil health, rural economies, and more flavourful, nutritious flour for bakers.
Contribution
Provides milling infrastructure, long‑term contracts and premiums for regenerative grain, grain quality and terroir expertise, and relationships with farmers and bakers who value sustainability and flavour. Cairnspring also brings storytelling and data on farmer practices that can anchor SIR‑linked rewards and investment.
Focus Areas
Regenerative and conservation agriculture, identity‑preserved grain, local and regional food systems, soil health and carbon sequestration, rural economic development, and culinary quality.
Geographical Location
Primary focus in the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West, working with farmers in Washington and neighbouring states and supplying bakeries, restaurants, and retail partners across the region and beyond.
Alignment with SIR
Cairnspring’s mission to build a fair, resilient grain economy fits Social Impact Rewards’ goal of rewarding systems‑level change, not just isolated projects. By tracking regenerative practices and market outcomes, this partnership helps prove that paying farmers fairly for better practices can be both economically viable and ecologically restorative.
